In the last two years, Blizzard, a groundbreaking gaming company that produced many amazing titles, has been getting a lot of flak. Because of the latest incident at one of their tournaments, many players boycott Blizzard and are looking for ways to delete their Blizzard accounts.
To delete or not to delete – that is the question!
What is happening with Blizzard?
Blizzard has incredible games like World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Starcraft, Heroes of the Storm, Diablo. So, why are people boycotting Blizzard and their games?
In October 2019, an unpleasant situation happened during the Hearthstone tournament hosted by Blizzard. After the match, tournament participant Chung Ng Wai from Hong Kong shouted, “Let’s liberate Hong Kong”, referring to the struggle of Hong Kong residents against Chinese authorities and the stifling of democracy.
As the organizer of the esports competition, Blizzard decided to punish the player for his political statement. They took away the cash prizes he had won and suspended him so he couldn’t compete in Heartstone tournaments for an entire year.
The reaction of the Blizzard community was mostly condemning towards Blizzard. Since then, players have been increasingly deleting their accounts.
