What to do if you are unable to uninstall Valorant?
Sometimes users cannot entirely remove the Valorant game or its anti-cheat software. This issue was often reported during the beta stages, which directed the game developers to change Vanguard and make it more user-friendly.
However, some files may remain in place depending on how the software is removed.
Vanguard software runs at the kernel level, it is challenging to remove it by traditional means. When it happens, users usually find that Vanguard’s vgk.sys file remains in the installation directory despite removing the software through the steps we mentioned.
Luckily, there are a few tips that players can use to remove vgk.sys and uninstall anti-cheat software easily:
- Run Windows in Safe Mode
- Change the file extension from vgk.sys to * .txt
- Remove vgk.sys via command prompt
- Type command prompt in the Windows search bar, right-click the result, and choose “Run as administrator”. Then type “sc delete vgc” click enter, type “sc delete vgk” and click enter again. Now restart your computer, locate the Vanguard installation folder (usually in C: Program Files), and delete the entire directory.
Enjoy the game!
